Origin: central and southern Europe, therefore native to the Czech Republic
Habitat in the original area: floodplain forests
Habitus: It grows up to the height of 35 metres; its bark is grey-brown and peeling in scales.
Leaf: The short petioles grow alternately. The ovate leaf blade is up to 15 cm long, distinctly asymmetrical at the base. Its edge is doubly serrate. The upper side of the leaf is smooth, the lower side is covered with trichomes.
Bloom, fruit: It blooms in April with inconspicuous green-red blossoms growing in a panicle. The fruit is a downy winged achene.
Interesting fact: The fruits ripen in late spring, fall off immediately and germinate very quickly. The plant is classified as a species requiring further attention (C4a).
